The Isle of Islay is famous for its abundance of wildlife, beautiful scenery and several working whisky distilleries (which may be toured by appointment). There are many golden sandy beaches which rarely ever have more than a couple of people on them at any one time - ideal for getting away from it all.

Port Charlotte is easily one of the prettiest villages on the island, situated on the Rhinns of Islay which lie on the west side of the island. The village has its own post office/shop; a Field Centre, which offers a variety of activities for children based upon the wildlife of Islay; the Museum of Islay Life with many fascinating exhibits and finally a working lighthouse which can be viewed by arrangement.

The Islay newspaper 'Ileach' is a good source of Islay information at www.ileach.co.uk

If you are interested in bird watching then try Islay Birding. They offer comprehensive bird watching tours of Islay, running daily birding tours bringing you close to our extraordinary birdlife, fantastic scenery and history.
